Enjoy corn mazes, pumpkin patches, haunted attractions, murdery mystery dinners & more! That fall chill is in the air which means that it's time for the 2024 Fall Festival at DixieMaze Farms, y'all!  I don't know about you guys, but I cannot WAIT to head out to the farm with the kids for a breath of fresh air. I want to go get lost in their corn field, watch the kids jump in their jumpy-thing, root for my favorite piggy in the piggy races and just enjoy the beautiful fall day! There is SO much to do out there, I could easily spend the entire day AND evening out there.  If you have older kids, you CAN literally do exactly that on Fridays and Saturday nights with their Murder Mystery Dinners for us adults AND their Haunted Attraction features for the older kiddos!  How much fun can one place provide? Camping Supply-Shopping & Triplets at Target

Image
Today we had to make a Target run to stock up on camp things for my eldest.  He will leave in about a week for Camp Pioneer, a boy scout camp in Arkansas for a whole week's vacation from his siblings and family!  Being a typical pre-teen/tween kinda guy, he has his own little quirks and idiosyncrasies such as his habit of wanting to wear only jeans during the very hot and sweltering Louisiana summers and wearing any t-shirt that he has discovered hanging in his closet such as the very nice, very new yet long sleeved green army shirt that he decided to try and wear out yesterday.  Hmm... I really have to do some convincing and get him to change his wardrobe over to normal summer clothes somehow.  So, off to Target we went, triplets, stroller, 12 year old and all. I did manage to get him to pick out several pairs of very long, what I would label as "Skater" shorts as they are worn way past his knees (skaters wear these in some hopes of not skinning their knees!)...

Everybody Is Diaper Dancing

Image
Diaper changing time at my house used to go so easily. Everyone took turns and it was nice and safe and predictable.  As I sit here writing, I am trying to figure out exactly what happened and where it all went wrong.  I know before, in the old house, the babies were all pretty much contained in their little play-yard like the Rugrats have on the cartoon.  Maybe that's why I never really had any trouble with it, they couldn't get out to get into anything, I suppose!  Now, though, it's a three ringed circus. I would call it the "Diaper Tango" but it's more like the "Diaper Menage a Trois" or something!  Imagine, if you will, three walking, talking tiny one year olds frolicking about in their very huge living room.  When Mum walks in, all eyes automatically lock on to her as some sort of target, and everything STOPS in the room as if someone has pushed a "Pause" button on the remote control.  After the pregnant pause is over, all three babies...

Something Worth Biting For!

Image
Recently, as part of the adjustment to our new move, my trio have taken to new eating habits.  Usually, they will sit in their little feeding chairs and eat whatever it is that I serve them.  As of late, it has become my habit to sit at our tiny table and have my lunch while they have theirs in the feeding chairs.  Today, they finished earlier than I did. I very innocently let them out of their chairs and moved them out of the way to the cubby-hole next to the buffet.  I sat back down to finish my lunch, only to find myself mobbed by my tiny trio.  Kian looked at me with his very huge baby blue's and said in his sweetest little voice, "May I try?"  Vivie just stood there with her hand on my knee, looking up at me with her baby blue's saying, "Mmmm."  Kai figured out that they were basically begging for food and being that he preferred to know what it was that he was eating BEFORE actually tasting it, he wandered off in search of his truck.  I ver...

What They DON'T Tell You About Having Multiples

Image
It's funny. As a Mom expecting multiples, I read up on as much as I could about what life with multiples was going to be like.  I found accounts of pregnancy's documented in blog-form on the Internet.  I scoured through the Triplet Connection website and forum and happily read all about which car seats would fit inside which car or minivan and in what ways.  I even read all about reports of which stroller type would be best and easiest to drive.  What I didn't run across, however, was information or accounts about experiences mother's of higher order multiples would have with taking their babies out in public to try and achieve mundane every day life-tasks.  Nobody seems to feel it necessary to warn unsuspecting new mothers of exactly what lies ahead for them and their babies.  They are all in to telling you about how to dress them, how to feed them, even how to be their advocate while the babies are in the hospital.  Apparently, its an off limit's su...

Getting Bigger & Growing Up

Image
My triplets are officially 17 months old now. They have come quite a long way from the tiny preemies that they were when they were first born.  They can talk, cruise, and of course bite and pull hair and blow air kissies.  Along the way, they have reached many milestones, some of which I thought would never come.  They learned to drink out of a bottle, they cut their first teeth, and started pulling up.  They even finally started getting bigger. In fact, once they started growing, apparently there is no stopping them!  They have outgrown everything from their clothes and toys to the most disconcerting item, their play-yard.  It is one of those "Rug-rat's" type play-yards that look like a bunch of baby gates linked together.  It even has an extension in it to make it big enough for three, or so I had thought.  With the birth of our triplets, we officially out-grew our 2 bedroom home. We have made it work for much longer than anyone had imagined pos...

Triplet Time Out!

Image
Everything is different when you have multiples. Because they are born early and with their siblings, they develop at a different rate than a single-born baby.  This means that they are smaller and do not do the same things at the same time as other babies that are the same “Age” as they are do.  My trio rolled over later, learned to sit up later and didn’t even cut teeth until they were a little over nine months old.  Actually, only one of my triplets can even walk and they are currently 16 months old.  I don’t know if it is because they are tinier than normal babies, or if it is because I have babied them too much, but this go-round I have been a bit more lax in the discipline department.  My eldest was disciplined from the beginning as I could recognize that he understood what it was that I meant.  My triplets have been different in that I just haven’t thought that they would understand the concepts of right or wrong yet.  Don’t get me wrong, I hav...

Triplet Toddler Teething Troubles

Image
It's very quiet right now, considering it's about four in the afternoon.  As of late it's been very noisy for some reason or another.  My trio are all cutting molars and various other teeth in odd places.  This means that they are teething. Teething means that ANY object that can fit in their mouth must be BITTEN and often!  This process has involved chewing on such things as a tiny moose figurine (sorry Tyrone) that apparently is best chewed upon if you insert the antlers into your very wide open mouth and twist it a bit to where you can get those antlers in between the gaps in your teeth so that the missing ones can be enticed to break the skin.  Unfortunately for the moose, that pesky tooth has yet to break the skin yet.  Sadly for my teething toddler, that moose's antlers just BARELY fit into his mouth so he has to open super wide to even be able to have the chance to maneuver it into his mouth.  The laws of physics just are NOT in either party's ...

Triplet Giggles, Triplet Terror!

Image
Hearing your baby giggle for the first time is almost as priceless as the first time they look at you and smile for real (not just because they have gas!)  At first, my husband and I loved making the babies laugh just so we could listen to their little giggles.  They each have a different giggle, too. Kian’s is warm and fuzzy and has a little bit of a growl to it.  Vivie’s is light and airy and full of mischief. And Kai, well Kai’s is just an outright guffaw most of the time as he puts every bit of emotion he has in his tiny body into it.  Once upon a time, we used to tickle their tiny tummies just to hear them giggle.  Now-a-day’s, I have figured out that tiny baby giggles often mean trouble!  As the babies grew, I would learn that their giggles meant more than just an amusement for mummie and daddy!  My kids love to revel in each other’s misfortune and their giggles often signify that one of them is in a compromising position!  You have to remem...

Mommie-Blogging…A New Revolution!

Image
Today, I was doing a bit of research on my latest project and did something mundane and really silly, or so I had thought.  I Googled myself. It was just for fun and to see what would happen.  After all, they say many prospective employers Google their prospective employees to see what they will find on them.  I didn’t expect to see what I found. I found myself mentioned on another site for the things that I write about here on my blog with Red River Moms.  I was very surprised. I know it may seem odd, but I really was.  The piece was about the growing popularity of Mommie-blogging and what a wonderful means of communication it is becoming.  It touted the concept as a means of getting good advice and making friends in what can be a very lonely time in a woman’s life.  It really made me stop and think about what it is that I do each day.  I am not just checking in to document my babies’ daily lives anymore.  Writing my blog has become very th...

The Boingy-Boogy Baby Dance

Image
My babies love to watch “The Backyardigans” and “Jack’s Big Music Show” whenever they come on television.  They love the characters, but most of all, they love the music.  My trio will sit in their little feeding chairs in a semi-circle around the television and coffee table in my living room and eat their cheerio’s and watch their little shows.  If you listen very carefully, you can even hear them singing along with the characters.  Lately, I have been noticing that when the music comes on, they will all start moving their heads back and forth, nearly touching their shoulders with them, moving and swaying along to the music.  They will stop playing in their play-yard and literally drop whatever it is that they are doing when the music starts.  All three of them will start bouncing up and down (even though the carpet isn’t very bouncy) and they do a sort of “Peanut’s” dance along to the music.  If you have one of them with you on the couch, that baby ...
